Shopify Status Alerts does not collect any personally identifying information, Shopify account details, or browsing history.
The extension periodically requests Shopify's public system status through this project's own backend, which only ever returns Shopify's already-public status information plus a sponsor message. The extension sends no personal data, account information, or browsing history in that request. As with any website, the hosting provider's servers record standard access logs (which include IP address) — these are not used to identify or track you, and this project does not access or analyze them.
To power an early-warning feature, the extension may occasionally ask "is this happening to you too?" about a possible Shopify issue. If you respond, your answer (yes or no) is sent to this project's backend along with a randomly-generated identifier created on your device the first time you use this feature. That identifier is not linked to your name, your Shopify account, or any other personal information — its only purpose is to prevent the same installation from voting more than once on the same question.
Your notification preferences (which components you've muted), an anonymous identifier used only to prevent duplicate votes, and a record of which alerts you've already seen are stored only in your local Chrome profile via chrome.storage.local and are never transmitted anywhere except the one vote-identifier exception described above.
Vote records and incident data are currently retained indefinitely on the backend; there is no automatic deletion process yet.
